Moderate to breezy easterly Trade winds return along with scattered showers late Friday through Monday.
A band of enhanced low level moisture is impacting Maui and our Hamakua coast. Only some of this moisture makes it way down to Hilo and Pahoa today. Light winds will allow for afternoon clouds and isolated showers over our higher terrain.
A couple of upper level troughs swing through the region over the next few days (200mb animation). These bring colder air aloft of less stable conditions. Limited low/mid-level moisture means showers are only likely to be widely scattered. Weak surface winds offer no enhancement, further limiting rainfall totals through Friday.
Heading into the weekend, surface high pressure builds to our northeast for a return of moderate to breezy easterly Trade flow. Cooler air aloft keeps our marine inversion weakened through early next week, so expect the Trades to be wet with scattered showers through the period. With the colder air aloft Thursday through early next week, expect some of the showers to be heavy at times.
