Massive surf pounded the windward coast right near our home. The ground was shaking from the power. I took this photo in the early evening with the sun sneaking in under the thick clouds and lighting up the face of this incredible wave.
I could sit and watch high surf along our coast all day long. This swell was coming in from the northeast... that's where most of our larger surf comes from, Fall through Spring. In the summer, big storms off Antarctica push the largest swells towards our southern shores, leaving our Puna coast quieter.
